The Democrats are not going to drop their unpopular social agenda. This is because they are all true believers in it.
In blue state after blue state (most recently Washington and Minnesota), the Democrats are passing new laws allowing the State to seize children from parents who do not "affirm" their child's "gender identity", and consent to "gender affirming care", which means puberty blockers, sterilizing cross-sex hormones, and mutilating "top" and "bottom" surgeries.
THIS is what the Democrats now stand for and believe in most fervently. It is what they will go to the mat for, what they will not compromise on.
As a 67-year-old lifelong Democrat and liberal activist, I am appalled. I simply can not and will not vote for anyone who is in favor of these illiberal laws.
The Democrats are embracing the far-left wing, and abandoning the middle completely. People like Elon Musk (recall his favorite drawing of a man who stood still while the left went further left) --

Biden, Pelosi, et al, the OG of the Democrat Party, remain in place as the new lefties gain more and more power, to lend authority and gravitas to the newbies. Then they'll be gone, along with another slice of the Democrat voting base. Their absolute focus on 'intersectionalism' and slicing Americans into ever smaller groups is simply a turn-off for those working class voters, who don't want to be victims in a Marxian struggle session -- nor do they want to be seen as oppressors, either. The Democrats demand you select a side, and the people don't want to.
