My last post here was way back in August. I feel bad for disappearing like that, but at the time, I was just planning to take a few weeks off. I had decided to apply for law school, and was going to take that time to study for the LSAT.
But once I got my score, I realized that I needed to write application essays. And then I needed to prepare for interviews. And then I needed to visit schools. And then I needed to negotiate scholarships. Each step of the application process was more time-consuming than I expected, so I kept putting this blog at the bottom of my to-do list. And that’s how I ended up in May, looking back at a 9-month dry spell of writing. I’m sorry about that!
Okay, now that the apology is out of the way — on to the exciting news.
In September, I’ll be starting at the University of Chicago Law School. I’m very happy about the school, which I think is a good match for my interest in Constitutional Law and the First Amendment. I am not set on any one career path, but I think I’ll end up doing one of the following things: a) working for a First Amendment organization like FIRE, b) working for an international human rights NGO, or c) circling back to journalism, with a focus on the law.
I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep up this blog/newsletter at all while I’m in law school. A part of me wants to, because I do enjoy this more informal kind of writing. But another part of me thinks that I shouldn’t add any unnecessary work on top of what I’m already doing in law school.
If enough people are genuinely interested, though, I would keep up this blog. I’d shift the topic away from elections to the things I’m learning in law school and how they relate to what’s going on in the world. If nobody is really interested, I’ll probably deactivate this newsletter, but keep the list of subscribers in case I want to start a new one sometime in the future.
In any case, here is what I’ll ask of you all now:
If you would like me to keep writing during law school, reply to this email to let me know.
If you would like to remove yourself from my email list (for this blog or for any future one I might write) go ahead and unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of this email.
If you want to talk about anything (law school-related or otherwise), reply to this email, and we can chat!
Thank you for reading, and until next time,
Seth
I have wondered off and on Seth, as to whether you'd return or not. What first attracted me to you was your picking up nuances that the standard journalists seemed to miss. As you participate in Law School, if certain issues catch your interests I'd be interested in your perspective. So still writing but not tied to any schedule, Dorsey
I would encourage you to keep posting as long as it interests you. If it becomes a chore, by all means feel free to take a break. Congratulations on your acceptance to UChicago Law!
